Ask (Tiny) Professor Lafferty!

This project represents a total rejection of cloud-dependent, data-harvesting "AI" junk. It is a fully self-contained, locally-hosted digital puppet that listens, reacts, and educates without ever phoning home.

Compatibility & How to Interact

To engage with Tiny Prof. Lafferty, you must understand the two ways he perceives the world: Listening and Direct Interaction.

For the Full Experience (Voice + Interaction): Use a Chromium-based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Opera). These browsers utilize the "Blink" engine, which allows the Professor to "hear" you locally on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
For the Manual Experience (Click to Interact): If you are on Firefox or Safari (iOS/macOS), voice recognition is currently limited or disabled by the browser's developers to protect your privacy from developers who disrespect and attack your privacy. You can still interact by clicking the phrases at the bottom of the card or by tapping the Professor himself to trigger random responses.

The "First Click" Rule

Modern operating systems (especially iOS and Android) have strict "User Gesture" policies. They will not allow a website to make noise until you interact with it first. If the Professor isn't responding out loud, give him a tap or click one of the phrases to initialize his voice engine.

Technical Breakdown for the Curious

Engine: This puppet runs on the Web Speech API.
Recognition (Listening): Handled by SpeechRecognition. Currently, this is only standard in Chromium (Blink).
Synthesis (Speaking): Handled by SpeechSynthesis. This is supported by almost all modern engines, including WebKit (Safari) and Gecko (Firefox).
Privacy: Because these are standard Browser APIs, the computation is performed by your device's operating system or browser locally. There are no externalities, no APIs keys, and no "AI" clouds involved.
